Vist the Rembrandthuis, the museum dedicated to the famous Dutch painter Rembrand. Rijksmuseums annexe at Schipohl airport exhibits ten of the Museums's Dutch Master paintints. Eastern Docklands is a newly-build area east of the centre and where the newly opened Lloyd is to be found. This is the city's most beautiful hotel, dates from the 19th century and is a former prison.
Envy is a delicatessen bar where only half the tables can be booked in advance. It's a cosy restaurant with fine wines and is the latest restaurant fashion in Amsterdam. Look out for Papabubble which sells designer sweets.
Events: April: Film Festival / May: National Windmill Day / June: Amsterdam Roots Festival, Holland Festival / July: Vondelpark Open Air Theatre with cabarets, drama and dance.
Recommended places are Hotel Lloyd, Envy, The Mansion for Chinese gourmet cuisine, Vondelpark, Rituals; a fabulous shop for buying presents; The flower-market and of course the museums.
Schiphol is the main airport in the Netherlands, and the easiest way to get to Amsterdam from there is by train, which costs under 4 euros and takes about half an hour. Taxis cost at least four times that and can take far longer with traffic jams and many one-way street. From Rotterdam airport it will take about 45 minutes by train to Amsterdam, costing around 9 Euros. From Eindhoven a direct bus will take you to central Amsterdam, taking about 90 minutes, and costing about 18 euros one way.
